How does it work?

How does it work? Your spinal column is made up of 24 movable vertebrae, the sacrum, and the coccyx. This column also houses the spinal cord through which nerve information is transmitted around the rest of your body. Whilst the spinal column maintains correct alignment, nerve information is passed accurately. However, if any part of your spinal column becomes misaligned then a nerve may become impinged, compressed, or stretched, distorting the information that passes along it. This can lead to pain, discomfort, or restricted mobility. Misalignment of the vertebrae or bones can occur for many reasons, such as incorrect lifting, car or sporting accidents, childbirth, falls, stress and poor posture. These conditions will all worsen over time if not corrected. McTimoney Practitioners use only their hands to adjust the bones of your body. The key to the success of the adjustments is in the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which they are performed It is the gentleness of this Technique and the treatment of the whole body which distinguishes the treatment from osteopathy, physiotherapy and other forms of chiropractic.

Electrotherapy to Manage Chronic Pain

Electrotherapy to Manage Chronic Pain   Of course, the first step in coping with chronic back pain or other types of persistent pain is to receive a thorough medical evaluation to determine the cause of the pain. In some situations, such as a herniated disc in the spine, it may be important to pay attention to the level and type of pain so that it can serve as a warning signal of impending damage. In other cases, especially when the back pain is chronic and the health condition unchangeable, one goal can be to try and keep the chronic pain from being the entire focus of one’s life. If an individual is not experiencing enough control of pain and other symptoms, electrotherapy, a treatment that directs mild electrical pulses to the problem area, may be an option. Electrotherapy is primarily used in physical therapy for relaxation of muscle spasms, reduce pain, improve circulation, repair tissues, muscle rehabilitation and re-education, and promote bone growth, leading to improvements in physical functioning.
